About the Common
Cleeve Common is a wide-open area of natural grassland forming part of the Cotswold Hills escarpment. It is situated in the county of Gloucestershire about 4 miles north-east of the town of Cheltenham
The Common is of national importance for the quality of its landscape, geology, archaeology, nature conservation and scientific interest. It is the largest area of unimproved limestone grassland in Gloucestershire. Almost all of it is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), which means it is overseen by Natural England. The Common and its surroundings lie within the Cotswold Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
