By Car

Cleeve Common lies some 4 miles or 7km north east of Cheltenham in the County of Gloucestershire. Parking is available at five main locations (see map below):

  • In the Quarry car park (charges apply see below). Turn off the B4632 at the summit of Cleeve Hill, signposted to Cleeve Hill Golf Club. Go over the cattle grid and bear left to find the car park. Grid reference SO989272, nearest postcode GL52 3PW W3W ///tutorial.pinging.necklace

    The car park gate is locked at night. The closing time varies with the season and is clearly displayed at the entrance. A release service is in operation which will cost £35+VAT.

  • In the golf club car park. W3W ///glorified.adjuster.sideburns

    PLEASE NOTE: there is a charge of £2 per visit for the above two car parks. Payment can be made via the PayByPhone app, or by card or cash at the machine outside the Golf Club. For more information, see Parking FAQ.

From the south side of the common use the Radio Masts car park (Grid reference SO994249, ) or West Down car park (Grid reference SP009239 nearest postcode GL54 5TL).

No motor vehicles are permitted on the Common itself.

By Bus

Take Stagecoach Service W from Cheltenham or Winchcombe. Alight at the Rising Sun Pub or Golf Club. You can also catch a local bus to Prestbury and walk up Mill Lane, but this is about a mile of steep uphill climb.

On Foot

The Cotswold Way National Trail from Chipping Campden to Bath takes in all of the escarpment of Cleeve Common. There is also a Cotswold Way circular walk, the Cleeve Hill Ring. The Winchcombe Way and Gustav Holst Way also cross the Common. The Isbourne Way begins on Cleeve Common and follows the river to Evesham. 

Disabled Access

Cotswolds National Landscape include two panoramic routes starting at the Radio Masts in the publication Walks on Wheels. Wheelchair access is also possible at the Golf Club and West Down. Please note that there are no surfaced paths on the Common.

There is a gate onto the Common at the Radio Masts car park. This is operated by a radar key if you need it to fully open. For more information please click here.

By Bike

Access for cycles is possible at the main entrance points. Bikers should keep to byways and other tracks across the Common and cycle within the Cyclists’ Code.

By Horse

Byways and bridleways skirt the edges of the Common (see map), but for full access, a hacking licence is required. For more information, see the Things to do page.

Facilities

Drinks and meals are available at the Golf Club and the Rising Sun Hotel (Cleeve Hill). Nearby settlements of Woodmancote, Bishops Cleeve, Winchcombe and Brockhampton offer excellent public houses and some shops.

Please note that there are no public conveniences on or next to the Common.
